Costa Mesa: Orange County Performing Arts Center

Jan 19th 2022: The Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa was established in 1986 and later renamed the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The complex consists of several different theaters for the performing arts.

The center is named after the Segerstrom family who are best known for building and operating South Coast Plaza the high-end huge shopping center across the street from the Segerstrom Center. The main concert hall was designed by famous architect Cesar Pelli and, is a beautiful building and a great place to see a performance.

Several resident companies operate out of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts they include the Pacific Symphony, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County as well as the Pacific Chorale.

The main Segerstrom Hall seats approximately 3,000 people but there is also the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall across the plaza which has seats for approximately 2,000 people. Other smaller venues at the center include the 375 Samueli Theater as well as the 250 seat Judy Morr Theater.

The various size performance spaces means many different types of performances are able to be put on at the center. The various groups at the center also offer many outreach programs as well as education programs and classes.

  1. I am the Director of Life Enrichment for Town & Country, a Continuing Care Retirement Community. One of our residents said that pre-Covid, some of the students from OC Performing Arts would come to perform here at our facility. Has that outreach been able to be resumed? If so, I’d love to hear more about it. Thank you much!
