January 26th 2023: Amtrak has announced that Pacific Surf Liner service between Orange County and San Diego will resume on weekends with a partial service. The tracks near San Clemente have been closed since a nearby landslide in September stopped all passenger services.
The weekend service will resume February 4th without the need for the bus service. Weekday construction will continue with restoring the full service not likely until March. Because of the landside in San Clemente service between that city and Oceanside in North San Diego County service has been halted but now at least on weekends you will be able to take the train from Los Angeles to San Diego again.
Weekend Service Running Trains Starting February 4th:
Southbound Trains: 562, 564, 770, 774, 580, 784 and 588
Northbound Trains: 765, 567, 777, 581, 785, 591 and 595
