January 17th 2023: Bad news for rail travelers to San Diego as repairing the ground movement near San Clemente is going to take longer. Amtrak and Metrolink service between San Clemente in South Orange County and San Diego was stopped at the end of last year to repair the track.
Because of rain delays and delays because of having to work around the foundation piles that secure the homes on the top of the bank the track won’t reopen in February as originally announced. Right now a March reopening is most likely although that would depend on weather as well as how the construction proceeds.
